About me

I’m Barbara Marquand, a potter based in Northern Nevada. I started throwing on the wheel about a dozen years ago and got hooked on the transformative process of turning mud into pots.

I make functional and decorative pieces, drawing inspiration from the sweeping Great Basin landscape and small moments of wonder — barn swallows scattering in the sky, crimson columbine blooming along a mountain trail, California quail wandering through the back yard.

I’m mostly retired from a decades-long journalism career and now focus much of my time on pottery. I belong to The Wedge Ceramics Studio in Reno, where I’m continually inspired by the teachers and other artist members, and where every day there’s something cool to learn.
